Introduction to Single Stick

March 2025 | Tuesdays or Wednesdays | 5:30-6:00pm

Learn the basics of historical single stick combat in this class for all ages 10+! This month-long course will cover the history of single stick combat and introductory footwork, attacks, and defenses.

Single stick combat can be traced all that way back to the 1500s where it was used to train swordsman for basket-hilted broadswords and backswords. Considered safer than practicing with a steel weapon, the Irish and and Scottish used these sticks for sport and everyday self-defense. Single stick influenced western calvary saber and infantry sidearm techniques, being used in military training all the way up through World War II!
